Dear Sir,
We enclose you a copy of a letter we have received from the firm of Messr Carl Bodiker & Co., Hong Kong.
From this it appears that they have received a
Permit from His Excellency the Governor of Hong Kong, to
import goods from Great Britain, ordered prior to the out-
break of War.
We have a shipment of the value of about £750 to
make to this firm, which were ordered in June last, and the
goods are ready for shipment. We have approached the
Chartered Bank of India etc., and they decline to deal with
the business. We have also approached the Hong Kong Bank, and they inform us that, this firm being German, will be
along with all other German firms in Hong Kong, in compul so; · liquidation, and that any goods sent out will be dealt with and disposed of by the Liquidator, and that we should have to accept whatever the goods realised: Would you be good enough to inform us, that if we ship these goods and draw upon our customer for payment against Bs/Ldg, whether e should receive payment forthwith in case our customer decided to take up the goods, or, would any difficulty be placed in his way by the Liquidator. This firm was supposed to be of high standing before the War, and we still think
that
